Questions about HumHub hosting by CUZY
Short answers about prices, where your data is, GDPR, backups, moving in, storage, the end of the trial and cancellation. Anything missing? Ask us, in English or French.
Pricing and plans
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Every hosted community starts with a 14-day trial that includes all CUZY modules. No card is asked. Trials are not backed up and cannot be exported; both start the moment you subscribe.
Do you charge per user?
No. Team and Business are flat monthly or yearly prices with unlimited members. Limits apply to administrators, storage and notification emails, and can be raised on quote.
What happens if I exceed a limit?
Your community keeps working. Administrators see a warning at 80% and 90% of the storage limit, and uploads pause at 100% until space is freed or the plan is raised. Email limits are advisory: we contact you before anything is throttled.
Can I bring my own domain?
Yes, on every plan. Point a CNAME (or A records for an apex domain) at your community and we issue the certificate automatically.
Can I use modules from the HumHub marketplace?
Yes. All free and paid marketplace modules can be installed from the administration screen, exactly as on a self-hosted HumHub. Professional Edition modules from HumHub GmbH are not part of the offer.
Can I get Professional Edition modules, self-hosting or FTP access?
No. CUZY Hosting runs on our servers with the community edition of HumHub and the marketplace modules: no Professional Edition modules, no on-premise installation, no FTP or SFTP upload. Organizations that need one of these should look at the HumHub editions sold by HumHub GmbH & Co. KG (humhub.com/editions); CUZY modules work there too.
Where is my data hosted?
On dedicated servers in the region you choose when the community is created: Germany (EU), the USA or Singapore (APAC), all at Hetzner. Germany and the USA are available immediately; a Singapore community is set up within two business days. Encrypted backups are stored with a separate provider in the same region, except for Singapore communities, whose backups are stored in the United States because our backup provider has no Asian data center.
Can I leave with my data?
Yes. Subscribers download a complete export of their database and files from their dashboard, once a day. The export is a standard HumHub installation that runs on any server.
How do you handle updates?
Security fixes within 48 hours. HumHub patch releases one to two weeks after release, after a canary phase. Minor releases from their first patch version, announced two weeks ahead; Business customers may defer once.
Can I switch plans or cancel?
Plans change from the dashboard, and subscriptions are monthly or yearly with no minimum term beyond the paid period. Canceling keeps your community readable until the end of the paid period. About a month later the community is archived — it stops being reachable, nothing is lost — and it is deleted with its backups at the latest six months after the subscription ended. Ask us at any point during those months and we restore it, or delete it immediately.
Do you offer discounts for non-profits or low-income countries?
Yes. Registered non-profits and organizations in countries with a very low median income can ask for a discount before subscribing.
Data location, security and GDPR
Is CUZY Hosting GDPR compliant?
CUZY acts as your processor under Article 28 of the GDPR: a Data Processing Agreement is accepted online with every subscription, the sub-processors are listed in the privacy policy, and a community created in the Germany (EU) region keeps its data and its backups in the EU. Your community itself is compliant when its administrators do their part (legal pages, consent, retention, member requests); the administrator handbook lists those duties step by step.
Who can see the content of our community?
Your members and administrators, according to the permissions you set. CUZY staff log into a community only for support and only if you allow it, through one-time links that are recorded and shown to your administrators. Routine monitoring works on counts and technical data, never on content.
Is our content used to train AI models?
No. No AI reads your members' content. CUZY uses an AI provider only for its own operations: technical logs with personal data removed, and the text of support tickets written by your administrators, as stated in the privacy policy.
How often are backups made and how long are they kept?
Team communities are backed up daily with 30 days of history, Business communities hourly with 60 days. Backups are encrypted before they leave the server and stored with a second provider in the same region (in the United States for Singapore communities). Restores are tested automatically: quarterly, automated on Team, monthly, automated on Business. Trials are not backed up.
Is two-factor authentication available?
Yes. The Two-Factor Authentication module is installed and enabled in every community, and administrators confirm their sign-in with a code sent by email. You can extend the obligation to other groups or to every member.
Can members sign in with their Microsoft, Google or company account?
Yes, on every plan and during the trial. The marketplace sign-in modules connect Google, LinkedIn, GitHub and Facebook accounts, and the Keycloak Sign-In module (OpenID Connect) connects a Keycloak server, which in turn federates Microsoft Entra ID, SAML directories and LDAP.
Where can our IT or data-protection officer read the details?
On the security page (architecture, isolation, backups, monitoring, updates, incident response, GDPR roles) and in the privacy policy (sub-processors, retention). Both are public, and the administrator handbook covers what remains your duty as controller.
Setup and migration
How long does it take to get started?
A trial community is live in about two minutes with every CUZY module installed. Shaping it (spaces, logo, sign-in, first content) takes a few hours; a company rollout with single sign-on and content import typically takes two to four weeks.
Which modules are installed from the start?
Wiki, Calendar, Polls, Tasks, Files, Messenger, Questions, Gallery, Custom Pages, Content Bookmarks, Report Content, Legal Tools and Two-Factor Authentication are enabled, with the Clean Theme Pro look and Analytics. The CUZY modules (maps, surveys, eCommerce, LMS, mass notifications and most others) are installed and wait for an administrator to enable them. Any other marketplace module installs from the administration screen.
Can you move our existing HumHub to CUZY Hosting?
Yes. Send us a database dump and your uploads; we import them into a hosted community, check the modules and the theme, let you compare with your current instance and switch your domain when you say so. Included in Business onboarding, on request for Team.
Can we move from Slack, Microsoft Teams, Facebook Groups or a forum?
Members are invited in bulk by email or imported with our help, and spaces are created to mirror your channels or groups. Old conversations from another platform are assessed case by case: most organizations archive them and start fresh in HumHub, and we tell you before the trial ends what can be carried over.
Is there a mobile app?
Yes. The official HumHub app for iOS and Android connects to your community on every plan. Push notifications to phones are included on Business; a mobile app under your own name and icon is available on quote.
Can we use our own domain name?
Yes, on every plan: a subdomain such as community.example.org or a whole domain. You add a DNS record, and the certificate is issued and renewed automatically.
Storage, trial and cancellation
How much storage do we get?
The trial has 1 GB, Team 10 GB and Business 1 TB for the files your members upload. Administrators see a warning at 80% and 90%, uploads pause at 100%, and more storage is available on quote for subscribers.
What happens at the end of the free trial?
You receive reminders seven, three and one day before the end. If you do not subscribe, the community is suspended: administrators can still pay and continue where they left off. Fourteen days later it is archived, and fourteen days after that it is deleted automatically. A trial never turns into a paid plan without your action.
What happens if we cancel?
The community keeps working until the end of the period you paid for. You can download a complete export of your data before and after that date. About a month after the end it is archived (no longer reachable, nothing lost), and it is deleted with its backups at the latest six months after the subscription ended, unless you ask us to delete it immediately.
What happens if a payment fails?
The community keeps running while the payment provider retries over about three weeks, and administrators see a banner with the links to fix it. If every retry fails, access is removed seven days later and the community is suspended, then archived; paying brings it back as it was.
Can we move from Business to Team?
Yes, from your dashboard. Your content and members stay. Paid CUZY modules are included in Business only: on Team, the ones you use are bought at 50% off or removed, and the Business features (white label, push notifications, own sending domain) switch off.
Can we delete our community ourselves?
Yes, from your dashboard. Deletion waits seven days, during which you can cancel it, then removes the community; its backups are purged 30 days later.
HumHub, modules and CUZY
What is HumHub?
HumHub is an open-source social network and intranet platform: spaces, streams, wiki, files, calendar, tasks, polls, messaging, permissions and a mobile app, extended by modules. It is developed by HumHub GmbH & Co. KG in Germany and used by companies, associations, universities and public bodies.
What is the relationship between CUZY and HumHub GmbH?
CUZY is an independent company and a HumHub partner. It publishes modules on the official HumHub marketplace since 2017 and offers managed hosting of HumHub. HumHub GmbH also offers its own hosting; CUZY Hosting includes all CUZY modules and is run with a different infrastructure.
Do CUZY modules work on a self-hosted HumHub?
Yes. Every module is installed from the HumHub marketplace on any HumHub of a compatible version. Paid modules come with a license key; the first year includes updates and support, and renewal is optional.
Are CUZY modules open source?
Yes, dual-licensed. Buying on the marketplace gives a commercial license with one-click installation, updates and support. Installing from source under the GNU AGPL v3 is free, with manual updates.
Which languages are supported?
HumHub and CUZY modules are translated into many languages, English and French first. Support is given in English and French.
Can you migrate my existing HumHub to CUZY Hosting?
Yes. Send us a database dump and your uploads; we import them into a hosted community, check modules and theme, and switch your domain. Included in Business onboarding, on request for Team.
How do I report a security issue?
Write to security@cuzy.app. We acknowledge within one business day and publish fixes for confirmed issues within 48 hours on hosting and as module releases on the marketplace.
