How CUZY works with HumHub

HumHub is developed by HumHub GmbH & Co. KG in Munich, Germany. CUZY is a separate, independent company registered in Ireland, and a HumHub partner: we build modules for HumHub and host HumHub communities. We do not own HumHub, and HumHub GmbH does not own CUZY.

What HumHub GmbH does

Develops the HumHub core, the official modules and the mobile app; runs the marketplace; sells the Professional and Enterprise editions, as SaaS or on-premise, with their own modules, support and onboarding.

What CUZY does

Publishes modules for HumHub since 2017 (33 of the 34 modules of our catalog are on the official marketplace), maintains self-hosted instances on request, and hosts the HumHub community edition as CUZY Hosting.

What the partnership means in practice

  • We run genuine HumHub. Hosted communities are built on HumHub's official Docker image and follow HumHub's releases; nothing is forked.
  • HumHub is always named. Our pages say which software you get and who makes it; "HumHub" is a trademark of HumHub GmbH & Co. KG.
  • We do not resell HumHub's own code. Professional Edition modules and on-premise licenses are sold by HumHub GmbH only; when you need them, we send you to them.
  • Paid CUZY modules are licensed through the marketplace, including the licenses that come with our Business plan.
  • Improvements go back upstream. Fixes and findings that help every HumHub user are shared with HumHub GmbH as contributions.

What this means for you

Whether you choose CUZY or HumHub GmbH, you run the same open-source core and your data can move between the two. CUZY's own work sits on top: the modules in our catalog, the hosting in Germany (EU), the USA or Singapore (APAC), and support in English and French from the people who write the code.
