Alternatives to Workplace from Meta
Meta closed Workplace, its enterprise social network. Organizations that relied on it for news, groups and frontline communication need a new home, and many are choosing between Microsoft, Zoom-owned Workvivo and open-source software they control.
What happened to Workplace
- 14 May 2024: Meta announces the end of Workplace (TechCrunch).
- 1 September 2025: Workplace becomes read-only and free; data can only be read and downloaded.
- After 31 May 2026: access ends and the data is deleted (Wikipedia).
- Meta named Workvivo by Zoom as its preferred migration partner (Workvivo).
The lesson many organizations drew: a platform that someone else owns can close, and your community closes with it.

What carries over from Workplace to HumHub
- Groups become spaces, with the same public, closed or secret logic (public, private, hidden).

- Frontline access: the HumHub mobile app for iOS and Android.
- Company sign-in: Google, or Microsoft Entra ID through Keycloak.
